About Me

Welcome to my humble little blog!  This is where I come to post
photos and random musings about my three favorite things:  My family, my
photography and my newly-revived hobby of knitting & crocheting.  I
can't always guarantee that
I'll update daily--or even weekly--but I do try!

I graduated from Millersville University in Millersville, PA in 1997 and married my "college sweetheart" Corey in 1999.  Our first son, Trevor, was born in 2000 and our second son, Aaron soon followed in 2002.

I've been employed full-time since 1999 by the transportation sector of Applied Research Associates.  In a nutshell, my office collects & analyzes highway, street and runway surface data for a wide range of
clients including states, municipalities & military.

Since 2007 I've
been self-employed part-time as a child & family lifestyle
photographer, although I've been on hiatus for a little over a year
now.  I'm still in limbo over taking paid sessions again this year, since it's quite difficult to keep up with the process while working a full-time
day job and taking care of (and being with) my family.  Come what may, however, photography will always be a big part of my daily existence!

As for the recent resurgence of my long-lost hobby of knitting & crocheting:  I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact that I'm on a computer 24/7 either at work or at home editing photos (or Facebooking or what-have-you!)  Combine that with my love for creating and it's the perfect second hobby for me.  I've known how to crochet since my grandmother taught me in grade school, and I eventually taught myself basic knitting in college.  I'm currently learning some more advanced knitting techniques, like cables (wish me luck!)

I hope you enjoy your visit here, and please leave a comment to let me know you dropped by!  I would love to visit your blog, too! ;)

Kung Fu!

Trevor has been taking Kung Fu lessons for about 2 months now at the Carlisle Kung Fu Center. Contrary to popular belief, Kung Fu is not the same as karate, but rather, is one of many various forms of martial arts. An excerpt from the Kung Fu Center web site states: “Pai Lum Kung Fu, also known as White Dragon Fist Style Kung Fu, is a traditional Chinese martial art that has been passed down through generations of the Pai family. The late Grandmaster Daniel K. Pai had devoted over 50 years to the development of the Chinese martial arts. His family’s system of kicking, sweeping, punching, blocking, and joint locking techniques provides a means for development as a complete martial arts practitioner.”

“The emphasis of Pai Lum is on achieving maximum results with minimum effort. Pai Lum develops:

* A healthy mind in a healthy body
* The ability to defend oneself
* Increased self confidence and self discipline
* A peaceful way to vent tension and aggression
* Patience in all aspects of life
* An understanding of the body and it’s unlimited potential”

In the short time that Trevor has been studying Kung Fu, we have noticed a marked increase in his self-discipline and respect for others around him. These were two issues he was previously struggling with, in school as well as at home. I recently took my camera along to class to catch Trevor and some of his peers in action. He looks forward to each and every class!

We are hoping that Trevor will continue to enjoy Kung Fu as much as he does now!

Mom - I can't believe the focus Trevor has on his face. I think he'll do well. I can honestly see a change in him myself. Keep up the good work Trevor!June 20, 2009 - 10:12 AM
